<image:title>About - Ann Walker Korahais, LMHC</image:title>
<image:caption>I’ve been a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in Florida since 2010. In addition to working in private practice, I’ve worked in community mental health and in a school setting as a clinical guidance counselor. Over the last decade, I have worked with adults, families, teens, and children, and treated a wide variety of clinical concerns. My passion for helping people grow and learn began as an undergrad at the University of Virginia where I pursued a major in Psychology. Soon after, I earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the Catholic University of America, and taught for five years in Washington, D.C. After moving to Florida and starting a family, I went back to school for a second Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of North Florida. Email — LinkedIn</image:caption>

<image:title>Ann Walker Counseling - Welcome</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’re here, it probably means you’re curious about getting some counseling. Fortunately, for therapists and clients, counseling is not nearly as mysterious as it used to be. Friends and colleagues may talk openly about seeking counseling for themselves or family members. So no need to be nervous! Seeking counseling at various points in our lives has become the new norm. A lot of people participate in counseling because of the confidentiality and the impartiality. Also, it’s a place where you get to talk about things that just don’t come up in every day conversation. There’s a lot to explore – thoughts, concerns, beliefs, experiences. It’s a way to get untangled so that you can live your best life!</image:caption>

<image:title>Approach - The Key to Successful Counseling</image:title>
<image:caption>Deciding to begin counseling is one of the best and most important decisions you can make. Successful counseling begins with the therapeutic relationship between the counselor and the client. Trust is at the heart of being able to be vulnerable and honest. This is why I put significant effort into establishing rapport and creating a safe space, free of judgment, for you to feel comfortable discussing difficult issues. The goal is a harmonious relationship where you feel safe to address your feelings, ideas, worries, struggles, and dreams. Strong communication will allow us to move toward the changes you want.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I accept all major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay Cash, Health Savings Accounts, and cash. My rate is $140 for a 50 minute session. I do offer a sliding scale for those who qualify. Currently, I do not accept insurance. However, many health insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits for seeing me as a licensed provider. You would be responsible for payment at the time of the session, and I will provide you with a receipt called a super bill that you can send in to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider to see how your plan works.</image:caption>

<image:title>Specialties - Teens and Tweens</image:title>
<image:caption>I have extensive experience working with teens and pre-teens, utilizing a variety of techniques including art therapy and sand therapy. I work closely with parents, providing support during tough times and transitions. I also have significant training in trauma and anxiety issues for teens and pre-teens. Issues of peer pressure, insecurity, adolescence, academic achievement, and navigating peer relationships are common themes for these ages.</image:caption>

<image:title>Specialties - Anxiety</image:title>
<image:caption>Anxiety is increasing across all age groups. Young elementary school aged children are showing angst at bedtime, with peers, and in school settings. Adolescence brings on issues of self-esteem and wanting to be accepted by the peer group. Adults of all ages are experiencing significant stress in day-to-day life. Life transitions can cause significant anxiety — changes in careers, divorce, growing or blended families, and trying to maintain a close relationship with your partner. One of these life events can be tough to navigate, but when life deals several changes at once, the stress can seem overwhelming. I have worked extensively with clients experiencing anxiety in various stages of life, and have led numerous anxiety groups to work through struggles. Together, we will add tools to your toolbox to get over the hurdles.</image:caption>

<image:title>Specialties - Parenting</image:title>
<image:caption>Parenting is an ever-changing job. Just when you’ve mastered infancy, toddlerhood sets in. You set a routine for young school aged kids, and then adolescence begins to kick in. Maybe it’s the everyday worry of getting homework done or setting boundaries. Perhaps there are issues of divorce, deployment, infertility, or loss of a family member. Many parents place tremendous pressure on themselves. We can work together to find harmony.</image:caption>

<image:title>Specialties - Trauma</image:title>
<image:caption>Trauma can be defined as any experience where you felt like something bad was happening and had no power to stop it. Traumas can be large or small. Emotional trauma can result from a multitude of situations — anything from a physical or sexual assault to bullying or neglect by a parent. There is no expiration date on these wounds and many people tend to downplay the effects based on the amount of time that has passed. Yet if there is pain leftover, the wound is still active and worthy of addressing, for yourself and your relationships.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - Individual Counseling</image:title>
<image:caption>Individual counseling involves one-on-one sessions where the therapist and the client work to find resolution to concerns brought forward by the client. These sessions typically last 50 minutes and occur weekly or biweekly. Individual counseling can improve self-awareness, overall functioning, mood, and life satisfaction. Family & Parent/Child Counseling Family counseling involves collaborative sessions with more than one member of a family. The counselor incorporates the concerns of each family member equally as we move toward resolving the issues that are feeding the conflict in a safe, neutral space. Some family members may wish to receive individual counseling to address issues that require more concentrated attention.</image:caption>
